Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib will miss the remainder of the regular season after he was ejected from Sunday’s 17-15 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Broncos (5-1) were held to one touchdown on their first six drives of the game.
Talib was called for offensive pass interference on a Steelers receiver on the sideline and then flagged for unnecessary roughness.
Talimath also was called down for a hit on tight end Zach Miller that left him with a sprained left ankle.
“Aqib was ejected for a personal foul,” the Broncos said in a statement.
“This will not be an easy game for the Broncos, especially in the loss column.
It is very disappointing to see our defense suffer a setback like this.
We will work hard to get back on track.
We look forward to getting back to work against the division rivals of the AFC West.” “
We are confident in the depth of the Broncos secondary.
We look forward to getting back to work against the division rivals of the AFC West.”
The Steelers (4-3) won the AFC North for the second time in three years and the first time since 2002.
“There is no excuse,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said after the game, via NFL Network.
“When you have a team like this, you just have to go through the motions and do your job.”
Talib played in all 16 games last season, recording one interception and two passes defensed.
He was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance.
“I think you can see where he is coming from,” defensive end Jason Worilds said of Talib.
“You can see his leadership, and he’s one of the better corners in this league.
That’s what he brings to the table, and that’s what we need out of him. “
He’s just a guy who knows how to get the ball out and he wants to make plays.
I think he’ll come back, and hopefully he’ll do well in the playoffs.” “
For the first two weeks, he was just trying his best to take care of his business.
I think he’ll come back, and hopefully he’ll do well in the playoffs.”
Taliimath and Miller both made a pair of tackles, including a tackle for loss that set up Miller’s touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Taliib also caught one pass for 15 yards and a touchdown.
Miller had three catches for 31 yards and was flagged for holding on a third-and-16 play.
